The City of Los Angeles proclaimed April 16th (Chaplin’s birthday) as ‘Charlie Chaplin Day’ – and in the year of his 137th Anniversary, the day has been at the centre of much Museum activity.
On 9th April we had a great evening hosting the launch of Jacqueline Riding’s vivid history of working class lives in Chaplin’s London – now available at all good bookshops!
On the day itself the Museum was the location for the recording of the latest podcast from Charlie’s grandson Spencer Chaplin. We welcomed Spencer and his guest Eddie Izzard for a fascinating conversation. And our celebrations are not over yet! On May 10th we have a special screening of Carmen Chaplin’s documentary Chaplin: Spirit of The Tramp (2024) – followed by a Q&A with Carmen and other members of the Chaplin family. It promises to be an amazing evening.
